Is Shaklee a Scam

This review is all about the Shaklee. Do you want to know if this MLM company is legit or just a scam? Are you curious if it can help you earn some extra cash? Well, I suggest that you read this review in order to learn more about it.

Product Overview

Company Name: Shaklee

Price to Join: $49.95

My Rating: 6.8 out of 10.0

What is the Shaklee?

Shaklee is a multi-level marketing company that focuses on selling nutritional supplements. They are not limited to selling nutritional supplements and they also offer home and beauty products.

They have products for almost anything like brain health, weight loss, sports nutrition, kids nutrition, protein, joints, immunity and many others. They don’t seem to be based on strong scientific research, but they offer a 100% money-back guarantee. It is not normal for companies in the health and wellness niche to offer a 100% money-back guarantee so this can be a big advantage.

By the way, this company was founded by Forrest C. Shaklee in the year 1956 with his two sons.

In this review, I will take a closer look at this company and try to determine whether this is a scam or not. This is based on my honest research about it. I recommend that you read the entire review before thinking about joining this company.

How Does Shaklee Work?

There is a detailed compensation plan available for the year 2013 and 2015, but not for the year 2018. They only have a brief overview for the year 2018, which is not as detailed as the full compensation plan.

So here are the ways of earning money through the compensation plan of Shaklee.

The percentage of commission that you will earn on retail sales is not fixed. You can earn an average of 16% commission when a preferred customer orders the product.

When a retail customer orders a product, then you will earn an average of 36% commission. On some orders you may earn more and on some orders you may earn less.

Overall, the percentage of retail commission paid on the product sales is good.

These bonuses are paid based on the personal point value generated by you and your team. The personal group volume will include your personal purchases, your customers’ purchases and your distributors’ purchases.

These bonuses are paid in the range of 4% to 20% based on your personal group volume. If your personal group volume is 250, then you will earn 4%.

You can increase the amount that you can earn from these bonuses by growing your team. The only requirement for earning these bonuses is 100 personal point value from your own purchases or retail sales.

You will need to build your personal group volume up to 3,000 and also help a person in your downline to reach the rank of Director so that you can reach a total of 5,000 car volume. Car volume is your personal group volume plus up to 2,000 in credit for each first generation leader.

When you maintain a car volume of 5,000 for three months, then you can earn up to $250 car bonus for an alternative fuel/hybrid car or up to $225 for a standard car.

There are higher amounts of this bonus that you can earn by having a higher car volume.

There are several other ways of earning money like the leadership bonuses or the fast track bonuses. The compensation plan is just like the typical compensation plan of other MLM company.

On paper it may look impressive, but it is very unlikely to benefit a lot from it. There are many ranks and only the people on the top will make most of the money from this compensation plan.

How Much Does It Cost to Join?

The Distributor Welcome Kit will cost you $49.95 if you decide to join in Shaklee. The kit will contain product catalogs, distributor reference guide, business building brochures, digital tools and your replicated website.

There are no products in the Distributor Welcome Kit, which is a bit disappointing. However, the cost of joining is lower when compared to many other MLM companies.

How Much Can I Earn?

One of the biggest problem that you will face while trying to sell is the high price of the products. The 100% money back guarantee will help you in selling the products, but I don’t think that it is enough to retain all customers.

In the long run, many customers will not make repeat purchases because of the high price even if they like the products.

The compensation plan is favorable to the top rank holders as they make most of the money. You will have to personally purchase products each month and also encourage people in your downline to do the same.

Most of the rewards will go to your upline and it will be very difficult to earn in the beginning.

I am not denying that you can make money through the compensation plan of this company. However, most people will be forced to quit this business because of not making enough money in the long run.

Are there Any Complaints?

Yes, and I have listed some of the major concerns below.

The products of this company are expensive.

Most of the money is made by the people on the top.

Bottom Line

In my opinion, Shaklee is not a scam because they sell quality products and they have existed for decades. They also offer some helpful information on how you can start your own business.

On the other hand, I must say that you should have the passion towards the products that you are promoting. You should also have the skills on selling and recruiting in order to have more edge compared to other distributors. Nevertheless, I still leave the final decision in your hands. Good luck and choose wisely.

  • Teaches Entrepreneurial Skills
  • Work at Home Business

  • High Priced Products
  • Climb the ranks to earn more

I know you want to join in Shaklee because you want to have a different source of income. And I feel that you already discovered the benefits of having your own business.

But let me tell you that this type of business and its compensation is not that easy. You need to have great selling and recruiting skills in order to attain your goals.

On the other hand, if you are still looking for a new source of income, then you can also take a look into my personal favorite choice. My best suggestion would be through making your own online business with a support from community. Basically it is a modern way of making money. What I like about it is that it doesn’t require any selling or recruiting.

Right now, I am on my second year in this type of business and I am already enjoying the fruits of my labor. So, I want to share my success with you.

  1. Hi John,
Thanks for your post on Shaklee. Whilst you’ve got a fairly high rating, I tend to stay away from MLM schemes as there are normally a lot of upfront costs in time and effort to make them work. The high cost does put me off a little too, especially when I’m not that passionate about selling supplements. Either way, it’s good to hear it’s not a scam and money can be made for those who are willing to work hard at it.

    • Yes, the high cost can be overwhelming. That is why you have to think several times and be sure before you invest in MLM business like Shaklee. In this way, you will use your time and resources efficiently.
