Overview

Company Name: PeoplePerHour

Owner: Xenios Thrasyvoulou and Simos Kitiris

Price to Join: Free to Join

My Rating: 6.9 out of 10.0

PeoplePerHour is one of the well-known freelancing websites, where both clients and freelancers work with each other.

In addition to applying to jobs, the website allows the freelancers to post something called hourlies. Hourlies are services that the freelancers offer at a fixed price. There are many other useful features of this website that separate it from other freelancing websites.

This website was founded in the year 2007 by Xenios Thrasyvoulou and Simos Kitiris. They are doing really well in a lot of countries, especially the UK. There is no doubt that they will grow with time and continue to be one of the top freelancing websites.

In this PeoplePerHour review, we will see if this website is worth your time or not. As there are a lot of freelancing websites, you have plenty of options. This review is written from the perspective of a freelancer.

How Does PeoplePerHour Work?

I like the fact that you can sign up with Facebook as this can allow you to save some time. Now their application process is a little detailed to be honest. They will ask you to submit details about you, your skills and other information during the application process.

You also have to submit documents that prove that you have the skills that you mention. They need at least one document, which can be an issue for new freelancers.

You can submit a CV if you have nothing else to submit. Just make sure that whatever you submit is impressive.

They will require you to add external sites with relevant information or connect your social media account.

You can also work on-site if you want to, but most people choose remote work only as on-site work is not possible for them. Finally, they will give you a chance to personalize your application, where you can add your experience and skills.

After you are done with your application, they will give you the option to get it approved within one day by making a payment. You can also wait for around 7 days to get it approved if you don’t want to pay them any money. Once your application is approved, you will be allowed to apply for jobs and post hourlies.

If a buyer responds to your bid, then you can talk with them and answer their questions.

Once you are hired, the buyer will need to deposit the money for the job in the escrow account.

This ensures that you don’t get scammed when you complete the job. You can at least dispute the client if he or she fails to pay you the money. This is a common feature in a lot of freelancing websites, but it is still a good one.

They also have a minimum bid amount for the job to ensure that freelancers don’t try to win jobs by reducing the price.

This can work against new freelancers as they won’t be able to reduce the price to get some feedback on their profile. However, I think that this is a great feature and will be very useful in the long run.

After the completion of the job, you will get feedback and add feedback for the buyer. Good feedback helps you progress and build trust with potential buyers.

They will give you 15 free bids each month, which should be enough to land a few jobs if you bid wisely. You can purchase additional bids without any issues.

They made changes to the service fee that you have to pay out of your earnings. Now it depends on your lifetime earnings from a single buyer. Higher earnings from a buyer will allow you to earn more by paying a lower service fee.

If the lifetime earnings from a buyer is less than $700, then you will have to pay 20% service fee. If it is more than $7,000, then the service fee would be 3.5%. If your earnings are anywhere in between, then you will have to pay 7.5% service fee.

You also have to ensure that you win two jobs and get positive reviews within the first three months or you will have to pay $13.95/month to try again.

If you are successful, then you would be allowed to use the website for free. Obviously, you will still have to pay the service fee out of your earnings.

Overall, this is a good freelancing website with a focus on quality rather than quantity.

How Much Does It Cost to Join?

If you want to join in PeoplePerHour, there is no cost of joining and it it absolutely free.

On the other hand, you may need to spend money for buying bids or for extending your qualifying period. Honestly, I think that three months are more than enough to win two jobs and do well.

In short, you can find work for free without spending any money if you do well.

How Much Can You Earn?

The quantity of jobs posted on this website has certainly increased over the years. Earlier, there were limited jobs when I used to browse the website. Now there are jobs posted every few minutes.

The rates on this website are good, and you can certainly earn a full-time income through it.

The fact is that it is not easy to earn a full-time income as a freelancer. Most of the time you have to compete with several other freelancers with more experience or skill. It takes time to learn how to bid properly. Working and satisfying the buyer is not easy either.

Choosing the right clients is important because some clients with no history end up wasting a lot of your time. One advice I would give you is that you should avoid clients with no history if it is possible.

It is tough to get started for sure. However, you can grow once you gain some traction and get better at what you do. In a few months, you could be earning a full-time income through this website.

Just know that it is not going to be easy, and you will have to give your best to have a chance of succeeding.

Are There Any Complaints?

Yes, I have listed some complaints below.

"I was new to this site and was able to get my first project, but suddenly, I got an email that my account was deactivated for doing payment outside the platform."

"Having been a buyer on this site and worked as a seller, I have to say that preference is shown to buyers."

Bottom Line

PeoplePerHour is not a scam. Among freelancing giants like Upwork and Freelancer, PeoplePerHour is not that bad.

I think that you can certainly try to find work on this website.

Nevertheless, you still have the final decision in your hands. Good luck and decide wisely.

Pros

  • Escrow protection
  • Minimum bid amount
  • Ability to ask questions
  • Screening process

Cons

  • Only 15 free bids per month
  • High service fee for smaller contracts
  • A lot of complaints about the support

How Can You Earn Money Online?

It seems like you want to try and join in PeoplePerHour because you are eager to have a new source of income. It also feels like you are just want to have a sideline that can help you in paying your bills and expenses.

But let me tell you that this type of freelancing job is only good for a short period of time. It is because even if you spend that much into it, the earnings that you can get is still not enough to earn you a living.

On the other hand, if you are still looking for new source of earning, then you can also take a look into my personal choice.

My best suggestion would be through making your own online business with a support from community. Basically it is a modern way of making money. And it doesn't require any selling.

Right now, I am on my third year in this type of business and I am already enjoying the fruits of my labor. So, I want to share my success with you.
